FORTIS to DocuXplorer Migration

From time to time we receive calls from business that ask for help to move out of one Document Management system to another.  In some cases it not as simple as it may seem.

One case of this is a company that had been using the FORTIS Document Management suite of software (Westbrook technologies Inc.).  This particular software had this customer in a bind.  Large maintenance renewal and the inability to move to a MSSQL document management suite of software called DocuXplorer.

After discovery BBDS found the version of FORTIS this customer had been using had two major road blocks that was holding up there planned migration.

SQLBase
The first road block was the database that was being used with the FORTIS installation. SQLBase a database that used SQL commands but was not as friendly for data extraction.
Requirement- Extract the index values from SQLBase, merge the values into a CSV file that would be used while importing  images into DocuXplorer .

.MAG File Format
The second road block used was the file format that the images where stored in.  This file format used by FORTIS only allowed viewing images by its internal document viewer.
Requirement- To convert the .MAG file format into the universal .TIF file format.

BBDS took on these challenges and provided the end result that made this new customer very happy.  Here are the remarks that the customer said just after completion of the project:

Sheldon and Mani,
I just wanted to let you know that I have successfully imported all the documents into DocuXplorer! Also, everything looks good with the other files that are not to be imported.

I’d like to thank both of you for everything. If there any more projects in the future, we will certainly consider you guys for the job.

Thanks,”
